Vegetarian/Vegan production In order to make our scrumptious Haribo sweets suitable for vegetarian consumption, we amended our manufacturing process a little.
As we are well aware here at FTF, many natural colours contain colouring from insects (known as cochineal) so our entire delicious Haribo line is made using artificial colours. Along with the addition of our very own developed gelatine substitute which contains no animal products.
For all our vegan consumers, we are aware the beeswax coating on our Haribo line is an issue. Bear with us, we are working on an alternative, but at present only our sugared Haribo line are vegan safe. This includes Sour Delicious, Sour Tongues, Mega Sour and Cola Breeze.
Halal production Prior to production the machinery for both our Haribo and Kool Kandi ranges are checked and inspected by an Imam to ensure all that is involved with the production does not contradict the laws surrounding Halal food production.
Following this, the production process continues in the generic way. With the difference being that all the colours and flavours added to our sweets are of dry bases which are re-hydrolysed so as to avoid using a liquid alcohol base.
Our Halal Haribo line contains the fore mentioned gelatine substitute and thus contains no animal products, whereas our Kool Kandi line is made using Halal certified beef gelatine.
Kosher production Prior to production all machinery is cleaned with water at 100ºC and left idle for a minimum of 24 hours. At which point the cleaning process is repeated to ensure sufficient removal of residue left from previous operations. This cleaning process ensures the machinery is deemed to be kosher.
All our gummy product machinery contains the use of jacketed water and is thus treated with a bitter tasting substance (i.e. almond flavouring) ensuring the whole process remains kosher.
Once all preparations have been made the production process continues in the generic way with the same ingredients as the vegetarian and Halal line.
However once the mixture is ready to be deposited into the moulds, these must firstly be cleaned at around 800 ºC and cooled back down.
From here, the moulds are set and our scrumptious gummy sweets which you see before you are created. |
